“Mineral wool is one of the few building materials that are produced in Iceland, using locally sourced minerals. In the manufacturing process, the substance, which the mineral wool is made from, hardens and turns into stone that resembles obsidian. The same result can be achieved by melting mineral wool at a high temperature. Here, used mineral wool and the stones that are the by-product of the manufacturing process have then been melted, ground and mixed with various kinds of matter in order to shed a light on the value of this material, which is otherwise disposed of as waste”

“Steinull sem fellur til við byggingarframkvæmdir er ekki endurnýtt heldur send til urðunar. Hún er eitt af fáum byggingarefnum sem framleidd eru hér á landi og er megin uppistaða hennar íslensk jarðefni. Þegar slökkt er á vélum framleiðslunnar storknar efnið sem myndar steinullina í steina sem minna á hina friðuðu hrafntinnu. Sama efni myndast þegar steinull er brædd við mikinn hita. Þessir steinar sem falla til við framleiðsluna og notuð steinull hafa hér verið brædd, mulin og blönduð öðrum efnum í því augnamiði að varpa ljósi á virði hráefnis sem annars færi til urðunar.”
